Question :
What is an 'Independent Variable' ?

Answer :
A quantity which may have any value we care to give it is an Independent Variable.
The value of the corresponding variable is given is fixed as soon as the value of the independent variable is known.
Independent variables are also known as predictor variables, regressors, controlled variables, manipulated variables, explanatory variables, or input variables.
An Independent Variable is a variable which can be assigned any permissible value without any restriction imposed by any other variable.
For example in the equation x + 5 = y we give x the value 9, then automatically the dependent variable y becomes 14.
